All schools have five INSET (In Service Training) days a year and these are for Staff Training and Professional Development.  Often this is keeping staff up to date with new initiatives, developing their knowledge of the curriculum which impacts on the teaching and learning in the school or it can be statutory training e.g. safeguarding, first aid
