Level 4 heatwave for Monday 18th July and Tuesday 19th July
Children can be collected from 1.15pm on Monday and Tuesday
Apologies for sending an email at the weekend but due to the ongoing concerns about the Level 4 heatwave for Monday and Tuesday, I feel I need to contact you all. There has been no directive from the Local Authority as of now, but I feel I need to make some decisions today. Our school building is extremely hot and there are no parts of it that we can move the children to, to keep them cooler.
Government guidance states:
'Children cannot control their body temperature as efficiently as adults during hot weather because they do not sweat as much and so can be at risk of ill-health from heat.'
... and young children find this extremely difficult.
'children should not take part in vigorous physical activity on very hot days, such as when temperatures are in excess of 30°C'
With both these things in mind, if you would like to collect your child on Monday or Tuesday at 1.15pm, you are welcome to. This will not be recorded as an absence. If you are unable to collect your child, please do not worry, we will keep them as cool as possible at school.
Also, the discos planned for Tuesday (for Daisies, Year R and Year 1) and the Dance Club and dance performance on Monday will be cancelled as the temperature at 4pm is 33/34 degrees! This is not what I wanted to do but as both of these events are not essential, I have to think of the safety of the children.
Year 2 parents, please be reassured that the Leavers Assembly on Tuesday or Wednesday morning and the Leavers Disco on Wednesday will still go ahead as planned.
Thank you for your understanding with this, especially as it is short notice.
If you are going to collect your child at 1.15pm, please let your child's class teacher know in the morning.
